To minimize spoilers for the early episodes of this arc, this arc is split into two groupings.
Episodes 19 & 20
Wei Wuxian
Wei Ying
Formerly energetic and mischievous, he's more subdued now, and seems to be troubled by something.
An orphan, he was raised by Jiang Fengmian, who treats him like his own child. He's devoted to his adoptive siblings, Jiang Cheng and Yanli, and would do anything for them.
He found a sword with strong resentful energy, and used that energy to kill Xuanwu, though it made him ill in the process.
Jiang Cheng
The youngest of the Yunmeng siblings; he and Wei Wuxian are adopted brothers; Lanyi is his biological sister.
After the death of his parents, he is now the leader of the Yungmeng Jiang sect. His Golden Core had been destroyed, but Wei Wuxian took him to see the immortals in on a mountain in Yiling, and it is now repaired.
Has a crush on Wen Qing, and has been carrying around a comb he wanted to give to her.
Lan Wangji
Lan Zhan
Now titled Hanguan Jun ("light bearing lord")
When Wei Wuxian goes missing after being captured by Wen Chao, he and Jiang Cheng work together to try to find him, despite all evidence pointing towards him being dead.
Wen Chao
The younger son of Wen Ruohan, he’s arrogant and sadistic.
He thinks it’s only natural for everyone else to recognize the power of the Wen clan, and by extension, himself. Despite this, he’s fairly incompetent personally, relying on others to get things done.
He has a grudge against Wei Wuxian ever since he humiliated him in the cave of Xuanwu.
Wang Lingjiao
Formerly a servant of Wen Chao's wife, her good looks lead to her becoming his mistress.
Petty, arrogant, and equally sadistic as Wen Chao, she enjoys commanding others despite being a servant herself. Ultimately, however, she's most concerned with keeping herself safe.
Wen Zhuliu
Wen Chao's bodyguard.
The strong, silent type, he's stoic and mild-mannered, and seems to show a surprising amount of respect for his opponents, despite working closely with Wen Chao.
He was responsible to destroying Jiang Cheng's golden core.
Jiang Yanli
Jiang Cheng and Wei Wuxian’s older sister.
She’s shy and not a particularly good cultivator, but she’s a really good sister. She just wants to have her family all be happy and together. Expresses affection via soup.
She had been engaged in an arranged marriage to Jin Zixuan, and seems to have feelings for him still.
Wen Ning
Wen Qing's younger brother.
He has health issues as a result of having some of his soul taken by the Dancing Fairy statue when he was a child, and a shutter.
He’s shy and nervous, but very loyal and willing to stand up for those he loves. He's especially loyal to Wei Wuxian because of the kindness he showed towards him when they were in Gusu. He still carries the protective pouch that Wei Wuxian made for him.
Wen Qing
Wen Ning's older sister, she's a gifted doctor.
She had been in charge of the Wen Supervisory Office in Yiling, where was sheltering the Yunmeng siblings after Lotus Pier was destroyed.
As a result of those actions, she was imprisoned by the Wen clan along with her brother.
Jin Zixuan
Jin Clan heir and only legitimate child of Jin Guangshan.
Half-brother to Meng Yao.
Formerly engaged to Jiang Yanli, but their engagement was broken off after he and Wei Wuxian came to blows at Cloud Recesses.
Arrogant, but also brave and honorable- he was able to persuade his father to join in the Sunshot Campaign.
Jin Zixun
Jin Zixuan's cousin; incredibly arrogant. Seems to have no respect for the Wen clan, even the dead.
Nie Huaisang
Title: Chifeng Zun (Red Blade Master)
Leader of the Nie clan, and older brother of Nie Huaisang. Owner of Baxia.
Leading the military forces of the Sunshot Campaign after taking back the Unclean Realm from the Wen clan.
Known for his temper and black-and-white view of morality- however, he was unable to bring himself to execute Meng Yao after he witnessed Meng Yao murder the captain of the guard, and seems to be concerned about how he is managing now.
Meng Yao
(mentioned)
Illegitimate son of the Jin clan leader, and half-brother of Jin Zixuan.
Polite, very capable, and incredibly intelligent, but he also has a dark side- he murdered the captain of the guard under the cover of the Wen attack, and refused to take full responsibility for his actions.
His whereabouts are unknown since he was kicked out of the Nie clan; Jin Zixuan confirms that he did not go to Jinlin Tai.
Episodes 21 - 23
Wei Wuxian
Wei Ying
Formerly energetic and mischievous, he's more subdued now, and seems to be troubled by something. Even though he has his sword Suibian returned to him, he won't carry it willingly.
An orphan, he was raised by Jiang Fengmian, who treats him like his own child. He's devoted to his adoptive siblings, Jiang Cheng and Yanli, and would do anything for them.
He found a sword made from Yin Iron in the cave of Xuanwu.
Captured by Wen Chao and thrown into the Burial Mounds, he managed to survive by turning to demonic cultivation.
His flute is called Chenqing. While Viki translates this as "old flame", it's actually a reference to a poem by Qu Yuan* and means "to explain ones actions"
*the line referenced translates to "I wished to set forth my thoughts and explain my actions: I little dreamed that this would be held a crime"
Jiang Cheng
The youngest of the Yunmeng siblings; he and Wei Wuxian are adopted brothers; Lanyi is his biological sister.
After the death of his parents, he is now the leader of the Yungmeng Jiang sect.
He's mostly concerned that Wei Wuxian is acting improperly.
Lan Wangji
Lan Zhan
Now titled Hanguan Jun ("light bearing lord")
He's deeply concerned that Wei Wuxian's use of demonic cultivation is going to cause irreparable harm to his body and mind.
He's also hurt that Wei Wuxian keeps pulling back and won't let him fully help him.
Jiang Yanli
Jiang Cheng and Wei Wuxian’s older sister.
She’s shy and not a particularly good cultivator, but she’s a really good sister. She just wants to have her family all be happy and together. Expresses affection via soup.
While she's not pushy about getting Wei Wuxian to open up about where he was for three months, she's clearly concerned about him.
She had been engaged in an arranged marriage to Jin Zixuan, and seems to have feelings for him still.
Nie Huaisang
Nie Mingjue's younger brother.
Wei Wuxian's school best friend seems to have matured somewhat. He notices that Wei Wuxian is acting strangely, and tries to smooth things over for him socially.
Nie Mingjue
Title: Chifeng Zun (Red Blade Master)
Leader of the Nie clan, and older brother of Nie Huaisang. Owner of Baxia. Known for his temper and black-and-white view of morality.
Good friends with Lan Xichen.
Leading the military forces of the Sunshot Campaign after taking back the Unclean Realm from the Wen clan. He's decided to try to assassinate Wen Ruohan himself.
Wen Qing
Wen Ning's older sister, she's a gifted doctor.
As a result of her involvement saving the Yunmeng siblings, she was imprisoned by the Wen clan along with her brother. However, she's been captured during the Sunshot Campaign, and is presumably being sent to a prison camp. She's been separated from her bother, but assumes he's also been sent to a prison camp.
Lan Xichen
Title: Zuwu Jun
Leader of the Lan clan and older brother to Lan Wangji.
He was able to survive after the sack of Cloud Recesses thanks to a friend who helped him hide. This same friend has also given him a map of Qishan to help with the Sunshot Campaign.
Jin Zixuan
Jin Clan heir and only legitimate child of Jin Guangshan.
Half-brother to Meng Yao.
Formerly engaged to Jiang Yanli, but their engagement was broken off after he and Wei Wuxian came to blows at Cloud Recesses. Wei Wuxian's current attitude isn't helping much either.
Arrogant, but also brave and honorable- he was able to persuade his father to join in the Sunshot Campaign.
Jin Zixun
Jin Zixuan's cousin; incredibly arrogant and seems to have it out for Wei Wuxian in particular.

Clan Leader Yao
Leader of a small clan, the Wens killed most of its members after his disciples managed to escape form the cave of Xuanyu. He and his remaining disciples went to the Jiang clan for aid.
Mian Mian
Disciple of the Nie Clan, she often accompanies Jin Zixuan.
Wen Ruohan
Now that both of his sons are dead, he seems more erratic in his actions. Unfortunately, he's made a lot of progress in his creation of the Yin Iron puppets, even though he only has 3 of the 4 pieces.
Meng Yao
Illegitimate son of the Jin clan leader, and half-brother of Jin Zixuan. He and Lan Xichen are mutually attracted to each other.
Polite, very capable, and incredibly intelligent, but he also has a dark side- he murdered the captain of the guard under the cover of the Wen attack, and refused to take full responsibility for his actions.
It's now clear that Wen Ruohan's new "right hand man" that Wen Chao mentioned previously is actually Meng Yao- after being banished from the Nie Clan, he made his way to Nightless City.
Jin Guangshan
Leader of the Yanling Jin Clan, his only legitimate child is Jin Zixuan, but he is also the father of Meng Yao.
He seems to have an interest in Wei Wuxian's Yin Hufu.
