Younger brother of the Qinghe Nie clan leader, who he is almost the exact opposite of. Meng Yao often plays interference between the two.

He has a playful but rather nervous demeanor, and has zero interest in cultivating or sword work.

The youngest of the Yunmeng siblings; he and Wei Wuxian are martial brothers; Lanyi is his biological sister. Heir to the Yunmeng Jiang sect. He's trying very hard to learn the skills he needs to be a good leader in the future.

While he's concerned that Wei Wuxian's antics are going to get them all intro trouble and he seems a bit jealous of him at times, he really loves him like a brother.

Leader of the Yunmeng Jiang clan. Father of Jiang Cheng and Yanli; there is a rumor that he is actually Wei Wuxian's father as well.

A calm and caring man, the other clan leaders seem to value his input.

Wen Ruohan's arrogant and sadistic younger son. Had been tasked with keeping an eye on Xue Yang, but decided to follow Lan Wangji instead.​

One of the famed Twin Jades of Gusu, he’s Lan Wangji’s older brother by a couple years and the leader of the Lan clan since their father’s death. He’s also a very skilled cultivator like his brother.

He’s a genuinely good guy, and his younger brother looks up to him. Immediately picks up on the attraction between Wei Wuxian and Lan Wangji, and does everything he can to help it along.

Wen Ning's older sister. While Wen Ruohan has given her a lot of latitude in the past, he seems to be running out of patience since she let Lan Wangji and Wei Wuxian go with a piece of the Yin Iron.

Nie Mingjue's former right hand-man, but he's now been kicked out of the clan after murdering the head of the guard. It's unclear where he's planning to go now.

A bastard son of the Jin clan leader, and half-brother of Jin Zixuan.

His mother was a prostitute, and he is sensitive to people making comments about his parentage.

Leader of the Nie clan, and older brother of Nie Huaisang. Owner of Baxia ("to be ruled by force").

Known for his temper and black-and-white view of morality. Good friends with Lan Xichen.

Jiang Fengmian's wife; mother to Jiang Yanli and Jiang Cheng.

She doesn't seem like care for Wei Wuxian very much, and often negatively compares Jiang Cheng's abilities to his.

Wen Chao's bodyguard. Known as the Core Melting Hand because of his terrifying ability to destroy a cultivator's golden core.

A peripheral disciple of the Gusu Lan sect. Seems to be a little too eager to prove himself. He was the one who lose his sword when they were facing the Water Demon.

He doesn't wear a headband because he's not a member of the Lan family.

​

Wen Ruohan's oldest son. Leading the sack of Cloud Recesses; he's not a chill guy.

​

Teenage Wei Wuxian is energetic and mischievous. Doesn't care for rules, which is going to be a bit of a problem. 

​

He's also very intelligent and inventive, despite his seemingly easy-going attitude. Brings up his theory of using resentful energy for cultivation during class, which is both an innovative and heretical idea.  

​

He's devoted to his siblings, Jiang Cheng and Yanli, who he'd do anything for.

She’s shy and not a particularly good cultivator, but she’s a really good sister. She just wants to have her family all be happy and together.

Younger brother of the Gusu Lan clan leader. Together they’re the famed Twin Jades of Gusu (though his brother is a few years older)

As a teenager he's known for being an amazingly skilled cultivator, but also for his stubborn adherence to the many, many rules of the Lan clan, and  his taciturn demeanor. Looks up to his brother, Xichen.

His sword is named Bichen, and he is very skilled with the guqin. Almost always dresses in white.

Lan Wangji and Lan Xichen’s paternal uncle, he also raised them. Known for being a strict and pedantic teacher, and for an unwavering adherence to rules and traditions. Has zero tolerance for unorthodox cultivation methods. 

While his nephew Xichen is the one who is the leader of their sect, Lan Qiren is an important and respected figure in the cultivation world, partially because of his role educating young cultivators.

The Wen Clan leader seems to be progressing further with his development of Yin Iron-controlled puppets.​ He now has two out of the four pieces.

He's running out of patience with Wen Qing.
