A spiritual weapon and tool that produces a purple electrical current. It can be used to bind someone, or as an offensive weapon.
It also has to ability to cast out a spirit that has possessed an unwilling host.
Lotus Pier
The residence of the Jiang clan, it is surrounded by lakes.
As a result, most Jiang clan members are strong swimmers, and used to fighting water spirits.

蓝 (lán) means "blue"
The Gusu Lan clan was founded by a former monk who chose to use music to cultivate, which has continued to be a hallmark of the Lans' skills. They are known for their discipline and their many rules that disciples are expected to follow.

Items and skills
Musical Cultivation
A hallmark of the Lan clan.
Can be used in combat both offensively and defensively, as well as to communicate with spirits, and to influence the spiritual energy of the living, typically for healing and stability purposes.
Cord Assassination
Created by Lan Yi, it involves using guqin strings as a garrote.
Uniform
Disciples wear white robes with an embroidered cloud pattern. The outer robes feature incarnations stitched into the fabric that protect the wearer from spiritual attacks.
Inquiry
Uses the guqin to communicate with spirits. Practitioners must learn the language of the guqin in order to both ask questions and interpret the responses. This language is a secret skill of the Lan clan.
Spirits are unable to lie in their answers when they are communicating with a skilled practitioner.
Forehead ribbons
Members of the Lan bloodline wear a scared white band with a cloud motif. They represent self-regulation, and are not permitted to be taken off at will, nor touched by anyone other than their "fated person".
Silence Spell
A Lan clan exclusive spell, it's typically used as a form of discipline, making the receiver unable to speak by sealing their lips together for about half an hour. Can be broken by force.
Rules
The Lan clan is known for its many, many rules, as phsyscially represented by the Wall of Discipline. There are 3,000 rules when Wei Wuxian is studying at Cloud Recesses.

Qishan Wen
Location: Buyetian Cheng (Nightless City/Nevernight), Qishan

温 (wen) means "warm"
Founded by Wen Mao, the Wen clan was the first cultivation clan to focus on bloodlines rather than a school-type system. Formerly, the Wen clan was known for its grandeur and was the most respected of the great cultivation clans. However, under the leadership of Wen Ruohan it became increasingly known for its tyrannical behavior. Its clan leader, Wen Ruohan, is the current Chief Cultivator.
As his two sons both have violent and unstable tendencies, the other cultivation clans are hopeful that Wen Ruohan will appoint Wen Qing as his successor.

Fire-based Spells
The Wen clan is known for using fire-based spells; their spells are typically red in color
Burial Mounds
Located near Yiling, it was originally the location of Xue Chonghai's palace. Due to the mass amount of deaths that occurred, it became a mass grave and is filled with resentful energy. When attempts to suppress the spirits proved unsuccessful, the Wen clan sealed it off.
Yin Iron
Wen Ruohan is obsessed with collecting the remain shards of the Yin Iron, in order to use its heavy resentful energy to ensure the continue supremacy of the Wen clan.
Puppets
Wen Ruohan is using the immense resentful energy of the Yin Iron to create "puppets" out of cultivators, turning them into nearly indestructible fighters

Blade Cultivation
The Nie clan uniquely use blades in their cultivation. However, every clan member who has used this form of cultivation has ultimately died of a qi deviation, due to the blades' strong killing intent.
Note: the use of "blade" or "saber" to translate dao varies between translations. It refers to a one-sided blade (compared to a sword- jian - which is dual-sided)
