The Characters
Wei Wuxian
Now resurrected by Mo Xuanyu after being dead for many years.
He is either in his real body or one that looks like- he does not look like Mo Xuanyu, which is why he wears the mask around people who might recognize the former Yiling Laozu. Both Jiang Cheng and Lan Wangji looked for his body and his soul after his death, without success.
He's terrified of dogs.
Lan Sizhui
Teenaged Lan disciple.
Compassionate, thoughtful, and responsible.
For some reason, he seems to be drawn to "Mo Xuanyu"
Friends with Lan Jingyi.
Xiao Xingchen
Known in the cultivation world as "bright moon and gentle breeze". While he values justice, he has a kind heart. His famous sword is named Shuanghua ("frost flower") and can detect corpse energy.
Had been close with Song Lang. 16 years ago, he had persuaded Boshan Sanren to give his eyes to Song Lan after Song Lan was blinded by Xue Yang as part of his revenge plot targeting Xiao Xingchen. The two argued afterwards, and went their separate ways. He has been missing for about a decade.
Former disciple of Boshan Sanren; martial bother to Cangse Sanren, making him Wei Wuxian's martial uncle.
Lan Wangji
Title: Hanguang Jun
In the years since Wei Wuxian's death, Lan Wangji has become a respected figure in the cultivation world. The younger Lan disciples especially look up to him. However, his back is now covered in wiping scars, which means that he committed a terrible transgression against the Lan clan's rules to receive such a punishment.

Ouyang Zichen
Friend of Lan Jingyi and Lan Sizhui
Song Lan
He and Xiao Xingchen had been close, but 16 years ago he was blinded by Xue Yang, and Xiao Xingchen gave Song Lan his eyes. The two argued afterwards, and separated. Xiao Xingchen then went missing, and Song Lan had been looking for him.
His sword is named Fuxue, and its name is engraved on the blade. (Netflix translates this as "snow flick" - fu means "to brush away" and xue is "snow")
Lan Jingyi
Teenaged Lan disciple.
Straightforward and careless, he tends to speak what's on his mind, whether it's socially acceptable or not.
Friends with Lan Sizhui.
Jin Ling
15 year old son of Jiang Yanli and Jin Zixuan.
Bad tempered and arrogant, he's also got a chip on his shoulder about being an orphan. He hates Wei Wuxian because of his role in his parents deaths, but because of the mask, he assumes that Wei Wuxian is actually Mo Xuanyu, and treats him accordingly.
He's nephew to Jiang Cheng, Wei Wuxian, Jin Guangyao and Mo Xuanyu.
Xue Yang
Last we saw of him 16 years ago, he'd been taken into custody by Xiao Xingchen and Song Lan after massacring the Chang clan, but he escaped from the Nie prison during the Wen attack.
Evidently, he's been working with someone as yet unknown.
Places, People and Things mentioned
Chang Clan
16 years ago, this clan was brutally wiped out by Xue Yang for an unknown reason. This was where he was appended by Xiao Xingchen.

Xuanwu
Translated as "The Tortoise of Slaughter", this was the monster killed by Wei Wuxian and Lan Wangji 16 years prior.
It had been bound using the power of the Yin Iron (in the form of a sword), which Wei Wuxian then used to create the Yin Hufu.
Baixue Temple
This was the Temple where Song Lan cultivated. It was targeted by Xue Yang as a part of his revenge plot against Xiao Xingchen; Son Lan was blinded by Xue Yang here.
Yin Iron
Previously assumed to be in four pieces, Xue Yang confirms Wei Wuxian's suspicions that in addition to the four known pieces, there was actually a fifth- the sword he found in Xuanwu- and that Xue Yang had managed to keep his own piece hidden.
