Yunmeng Jiang Clan
Location: Lotus Pier, Yunmeng

江 (jiāng) means "river"
Founded by a rogue cultivator, the Jiang Clan grew to become one of the five great clans. Its members are known for their honesty and being unrestrained.
The Jiang clan was nearly wiped out when Lotus Pier was attacked by the Wen clan; only a few members survived. However, under the leadership of its young leader, Jiang Cheng, the Yunmeng Jiang clan was able to revive and remain one of the great cultivation clans.

Title: Sandu Shengshou ("Master of the Three Poisons")
Clan leader.
Uncle of Jin Ling. Former marital brother to Wei Wuxian.
Owner of Zidian; his sword is named Sandu.
Jiang Fengmian
Deceased; killed during the Wen attack on Lotus Pier.
Former leader.
Husband of Yu Ziyuan. Father of Jiang Yanli, Jiang Cheng. Rumored to be Wei Wuxian's father as well.
Jin Ling
Jin Rulan
Son of Jiang Yanli and Jin Zixuan; Nephew of Jiang Cheng, Jin Guangyao, Wei Wuxian, and Mo Xuanyu.
Heir to the Jin clan.
Inherited his father's sword, Suihua.
Yu Ziyuan
Deceased; killed during the Wen attack on Lotus Pier.
Wife of Jiang Fengmian. Mother of Jiang Yanli and Jiang Cheng.
Wei Wuxian

Presumed deceased after the Bloodbath at Nightless City.
Succeed from the clan.
His sword is named Suibian (whatever) and his flute is Chenqing (to explain ones actions)

Deceased; killed during the Bloodbath at Nightless City.
Wife of Jin Zixuan, mother of Jin Ling.
Items and locations
Zidian
"Purple lightening"
Currently held by Jiang Cheng.
A spiritual weapon and tool that produces a purple electrical current. It can be used to bind someone, or as an offensive weapon.
It also has to ability to cast out a spirit that has possessed an unwilling host.
Lotus Pier
The residence of the Jiang clan, it is surrounded by lakes.
As a result, most Jiang clan members are strong swimmers, and used to fighting water spirits.
Its destruction and the massacre of the Jiang clan by the the Wen clan is what incited the other clans to join together in the Sunshot Campaign to fight against the Wen clan.
It has since been rebuilt by its young leader, Jiang Cheng.
Gusu Lan
Location: Cloud Recesses, Gusu
Motto: Be righteous
Symbol: Clouds
Color(s): Blue and white
蓝 (lán) means "blue"
The Gusu Lan clan was founded by a monk, who chose to use music to cultivate, which has continued to be a hallmark of the Lans' skills. They are known for their discipline and their many rules that disciples are expected to follow, as well as their distinctive uniforms.

Lan Xichen
Title: Zuwu Jun
Current leader.
Brother to Lan Wangji; nephew of Lan Qiren.
Second Brother of the Venerated Triade, along with Nie Mingjue and Jin Guangyao.
His xiao is named Liebing (shattered ice) and his sword is named Shueyue (new moon)
Lan Qiren
Paternal uncle of Lan Xichen and Wangji.
Known for strictly educating young cultivators.
Lan Wangji
Lan Zhan
Title: Hanguang Jun
Brother to Lan Xichen; nephew to Lan Qiren.
Was close with Wei Wuxian before his death.
His sword is named Bichen (eschew dust)
Lan Brother's Father
Deceased former leader.
Brother of Lan Qiren, who is anxious that his nephews not repeat their father's mistakes of throwing away a promising future to protect the person they love.
Lan Sizhui
A teenaged disciple. An orphan
Su She
Former disciple.
Kicked out after his betrayal during the Wen attack on Cloud Recesses, and started the Moling Su clan, which copies some of the Lan clan's techniques.
Lan Jingyi
A teenaged disciple. Friends with Lan Sizhui and Jin Ling
Items and skills
Musical Cultivation
A hallmark of the Lan clan.
Can be used in combat both offensively and defensively, as well as to communicate with spirits, and to influence the spiritual energy of the living, typically for healing and stability purposes.
Inquiry
Uses the guqin to communicate with spirits. Practitioners must learn the language of the guqin in order to both ask questions and interpret the responses. This language is a secret skill of the Lan clan.
Spirits are unable to lie in their answers when they are communicating with a skilled practitioner.
Forehead ribbons
Members of the Lan bloodline wear a scared white band with a cloud motif. They represent self-regulation, and are not permitted to be taken off at will, nor touched by anyone other than their "fated person".
Silence Spell
A Lan clan exclusive spell, it's typically used as a form of discipline, making the receiver unable to speak by sealing their lips together for about half an hour. Can be broken by force.
Rules
The Lan clan is known for its many, many rules, as phsyscially represented by the Wall of Discipline. There are 3,000 rules when Wei Wuxian is studying at Cloud Recesses, there are now even more

Former location: Buyetian Cheng (Nightless City/Nevernight), Qishan
Symbol: Sun / Two eagles
Color: Red
Motto: Every kindness should be returned
温 (wen) means "warm"
Formerly, the Wen clan was known for its grandeur and was the most respected of the great cultivation clans. However, under the leadership of Wen Ruohan it became increasingly known for its tyrannical behavior.
After the Sunshot campaign, the surviving members of the clan were executed by the rest of the cultivation clans, despite Wei Wuxian's efforts to protect them in the Burial Grounds. The clan is now functionally extinct.

Wen Ning
Title: Ghost General
"Deceased"; Fierce corpse.
The only remaining Wen clan member, he is the younger brother of Wen Qing and cousin of Wen Yuan. Wei Wuxian's former right-hand man

Qinghe Nie
Location: Bujing Shi (Unclean Realm), Qinghe
Symbol: Beast head
Color: Grey
The Qinghe Nie clan is known for their strength and ferocity in battle, and of their unique use of dao (blades) in their cultivation. Geographically, they are the closest to the Wen Clan in Qishan.

Nie Huaisang
Clan leader, but known for relying on Nie Mingjue's sworn brothers, Lan Xichen and Jin Guangyao.
Nie Mingjue
Deceased; presumably died of a qi deviation
Title: Chifeng Zun (Red Blade Master)
Former leader of the Nie clan. Brother of Nie Huaisang.
Member of the Venerated Triade along with Lan Xichen and Jin Guangyao.

Baxia
Nie Mingjue's blade.
It has a very strong killing intent.
Blade Cultivation
The Nie clan uniquely use blades in their cultivation. However, every clan member who has used this form of cultivation has ultimately died of a qi deviation, due to the blades' strong killing intent.
Note: the use of "blade" or "saber" to translate dao varies between translations. It refers to a one-sided blade (compared to a sword- jian - which is dual-sided)
Blade Shrine
The Nie clan's solution to the a blade's continued desire to kill evil spirits, even after its master's death. In order to appease the blades' spirits, they are buried in coffins, along with human corpses.
Lanling Jin
Location: Jinlin Tai (Carp or Koi Tower), Lanling
Symbol: White peony
Color: Gold
金 (jin) means "gold"
The richest of the now four great cultivation clans. The male members wear a zhushazhi- a cinnabar mark between their eyebrows to symbolize both their wealth and their pursuit of knowledge.
Jin Guangshan took advantage of the political void left by the Sunshot Campaign and the extinction of the Wen clan to maneuver his clan into being the most powerful of the remaining great cultivation clans.
Their current leader, Jin Guangyao, is the Chief Cultivator.

Leader of the Jin clan and Chief Cultivator.
Illegitimate son of Jin Guangshan; uncle to Jin Ling. Half brother of Jin Zixuan and Mo Xuanyu.
Third Brother of the Venerated Triade, along with Lan Xichen and Nie Mingjue.
He uses a flexible sword named Hensheng (begrudged birth/life)
