The Characters
Wei Wuxian
Wei Ying
Now resurrected by Mo Xuanyu after being dead for many years.
He is either in his real body or one that looks like- he does not look like Mo Xuanyu, which is why he wears the mask around people who might recognize the former Yiling Laozu. Both Jiang Cheng and Lan Wangji looked for his body and his soul after his death, without success.
He's terrified of dogs.
Lan Sizhui
Lan Yuan
Teenaged Lan disciple. Friends with Lan Jingyi.
Compassionate, thoughtful, and responsible.
For some reason, he seems to be drawn to "Mo Xuanyu"
Nie Huaisang
Wei Wuxian's school buddy is now the leader of the Nie clan since his brother's death a few years ago.
His nervous and indecisive demeanor seems to only have gotten worse with his new position, and is known for his constant refrain of "I don't know".
Lan Wangji
Lan Zhan
Title: Hanguang Jun
In the years since Wei Wuxian's death, Lan Wangji has become a respected figure in the cultivation world. The younger Lan disciples especially look up to him. However, his back is now covered in wiping scars, which means that he committed a terrible transgression against the Lan clan's rules to receive such a punishment.
Lan Qiren
The Lan brother's paternal uncle, he was not a fan of Wei Wuxian previously, and he seems like he may have recognized him from his flute playing.
Jiang Cheng
In the years since the death of his family and Wei Wuxian, he's let his anger at his brother consume him, to the point that he is obsessed with finding and torturing anyone he thinks may be the resurrected Yiling Laozu. He is also eager to capture and kill Wen Ning because of the death of Jin Xixuan.
He also views Lan Wangji as being guilty by association. The two don't get along now.
Lan Jingyi
Teenaged Lan disciple. Friends with Lan Sizhui.
Straightforward and careless, he tends to speak what's on his mind, whether it's socially acceptable or not.
Jin Ling
Jin Rulan
15 year old son of Jiang Yanli and Jin Zixuan. Raised jointly by Jin Guangyao and Jiang Cheng.
Bad tempered and arrogant, he's also got a chip on his shoulder about being an orphan. He hates Wei Wuxian because of his role in his parents deaths.
He's nephew to Jiang Cheng, Wei Wuxian, Jin Guangyao and Mo Xuanyu.
His dog is named Fairy (Xianzi), and is a spiritual dog, so it's more intelligent than a regular dog, and is able to sense danger.

Mo Manor
Way back in episode one, this is where Wei Wuxian was resurrected, and ran into the Lan clan when they arrived to suppress a spirit that turned out the be the sword spirit infected by Yin Iron.
Is it a coincidence that both the sword spirit and Wei Wuxian showed up on the same day in the same place? And if not, who is behind it and why?
Yin Iron
Previously assumed to be in four pieces, post-resurrection Wei Wuxian assumes there are actually at least five, counting the sword he found in Xuanwu. This is a bit of a problem since this means it wasn't all destroyed and could be used by a skilled demonic cultivator to at least partially reconstruct the Yin Hufu
Xue Yang
Last we saw of him 16 years ago, he'd been taken into custody by Xiao Xingchen and Song Lan after massacring the Chang clan- a minor cultivation clan in Yueyang- but he escaped from the Nie prison during the Wen attack.
Wei Wuxian and Lan Wangji think he may be in possession of a shard of Yin Iron, which could allow him to at least partially reconstruct the Yin Hufu.
Mo Xuanyu
A young man with some cultivation training, he sacrificed himself in order to bring Wei Wuxian back to life. In return Wei Wuxian has to kill four specific people, or the cuts on his arm will not heal. The first three were Mo Xuanyu's abusive family, the fourth is yet to be determined.
He was considered to be mentally ill, and wore a mask or heavy makeup his whole adult life, which enables Wei Wuxian to “pass” as him, since no one remembers what he actually looks like.
A bastard son of Jin Guangshan, he received some cultivation training at Jinlin Tai, but was kicked out for some (as yet) unknown reason. He's technically Jin Ling's uncle, and Jin Guangyao's half-brother.

Xuanwu
Translated as "The Tortoise of Slaughter", this was the monster killed by Wei Wuxian and Lan Wangji 16 years prior.
It had been bound using the power of the Yin Iron (in the form of a sword), which Wei Wuxian then used to create the Yin Hufu.
Jin Guangyao
Title: Lianfang Zun
Current leader of the Jin clan and Chief Cultivator.
Illegitimate son of Jin Guangshan; uncle to Jin Ling.
Member of the Venerated Triade, along with Lan Xichen and Nie Mingjue.
Formerly known as Meng Yao
Sword Ghost
A powerful sword spirit infected with the Yin Iron's resentful energy showed up at the Mo Manor at the same time Wei Wuxian was resurrected.
Lan Wangji and Wei Wuxian decide to investigate who the spirit belongs to, and it seems to be leading them towards a specific destination.
Nie Mingjue
Nie Huaisang's older brother, the former Red Blade Master seems to have died from a qi-deviation, presumably because of the power of his own blade. However, his body is missing.
